Built in 1951 on the island of Pellestrina by one of the most renowned master shipwrights of the time, Schiavon, Tortuga is a rare and authentic example of a Toppo Chiozzotto, a traditional Venetian working boat. Handcrafted entirely in wood using techniques passed down through generations, it stands as a living tribute to the culture of lagoon fishing and navigation.
The Toppo Chiozzotto was the boat of choice for Chioggia’s fishermen—designed to be durable, stable, and capable of navigating the shallow, salt-laced waters of the Venetian lagoon. Every curve of the hull, every joint in its structure tells the story of a time when each boat was built as a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
Today, after a careful restoration by Nicola and Pietro, two young Venetians with a passion for tradition and the sea, Tortuga sails once again with renewed elegance—faithful to its original soul and materials.
